"Clearly, the events in Iraq had repercussions for Turkey and the rest of the world. The fact that many Islamic militants perceive American troops as occupying a Muslim nation has proved to be a magnet for them to go to Iraq to carry out their struggle against the US. Thus, their jihad has been brought to a nation on Turkey's borders. It has to be remembered that when the Al-Qa'ida division claimed responsibility for the attacks in Istanbul it demanded that Turkey "stop providing America with soldiers for Iraq." The fact that Turkey was later not asked to provide soldiers to Iraq was not issue for them. Al-Qa'ida had already accused Turkey of collaborating with the "American occupation" of Iraq."
